Patio Heater Placement Optimization

General Rules for Locating

A propane patio heater can operate effectively in a completely open area. They are more efficient in a semi-open space. Protection from wind and the weather enables the heat to be densely distributed and effectively warm the surrounding air. Use caution and common sense when using a propane patio heater, making sure there is enough clearance of combustible materials around the unit.

When adding a permanent gas patio heater to an existing structure, yard, or other established gathering area, you should locate the gas patio heater as close as possible to the existing gas line if using natural gas. At elevations higher than 2,000 ft. above sea level, contact the manufacturer or a reputable local contractor for proper installation.

Fire Sprinkler Consideration

When using a permanent or portable patio heater, it is important to consider the layout of any built-in or added fire sprinklers for proper integration. Fire sprinkler heads must be placed far enough away to not be activated by operation of the patio heater. You can further ensure that both the patio heater will not cause the sprinklers to operate by using sprinklers with a higher temperature setting.

DO NOT USE fire sprinkler heads or systems that employ Propylene Glycol, antifreeze solutions or other potentially flammable substances.
